What this preset changes, and why

Progress billing works the same way: one invoice per milestone, numbered in sequence, with the contract total and the amount billed to date in the notes. The billing statement builder summarizes several of them for the customer.

This preset was built by Ready Utilities on the same engine as the site's invoice builder, with the fields trade invoices carry in practice: job address, labor and materials apart, and the deposit shown against the total. It states no lien law for any state. It runs in your browser and stores nothing you type unless you turn on the on-device options.

Frequently asked questions

What goes on a contractor invoice?

Your business and license details, the customer, the job address, the invoice number and dates, labor and materials as separate lines, any deposit already received, the balance due, and your payment terms. Add a permit or lien-notice line if your state or the contract requires it.

How do I show labor and materials separately?

One line per labor item (hours times rate, or a fixed labor charge) and one line per material with quantity and unit cost. Customers and insurers want to see them apart, and it keeps markup questions simple.

Should I invoice the deposit?

Yes. Send a deposit invoice before the work, then on the final invoice enter the deposit in Amount already paid so the sheet prints the full total, the deposit received, and the balance due.

Can I add a late fee on a contractor invoice?

Only if it was in the contract or the quote before the work. The late fee calculator works out what is owed and writes the clause; the terms guide has construction wording with a lien-notice line.

What about progress billing?

Send an invoice at each milestone for the work completed to date, numbered in sequence, with the contract total and the amount billed so far shown in the notes. The billing statement builder can summarize them for the customer.

Is this contractor invoice template free?

Yes. No account, no watermark, and nothing stored unless you turn on the on-device options.
